Private Investigators in the Northern Territory are called Inquiry Agents. The activities of Inquiry Agents is licenced and governed and administered by the Northern Territory Departmet of Justice. Any person undetaking a business as an inquiry agent must hold the appropriate licence.
Inquiry Agent
Inquiry agent means a person who, for monetry or other consideration, preforms any of the following functions.
•Obtaining or providing information as to the personal character or actions of any person, or as to the business or occupation of any person;
•Obtaining evidence for the purposed of any legal proceedings; or
•Searching for missing persons on behalf of any other person.
Training requirements and restrictions.
There are no training requirements for applicants to obtain an Inquiry Agent Licence in the Northern Territory.
