I get asked the following questions on a daily basis..... so I hope the following information helps.
1. How do I become a private investigator?
2. Want do I need to do to become an Inquiry Agent?
3. How do I get an Investigators licence?
You must obtain a licence to work as an investigator within the private sector in Australia. In most instances licences can be obtained by individuals with no relevant experience. Most fully licenced private investigators (especially those within the insurance fraud investigation market) are self employed and operate on a subcontracting basis.
Each State in Australia differs slightly in its requirements for investigator licencing. For example the title of the licence differs from State to State and so gives rise to a variety of names for the operational investigator including Private Inquiry Agent, Private Agent, Private Investigator, Investigator or Investigation Agent.
Some licences are restricted for first time licence holders and relevant training and educational requirements must be met within a specific period of time for the licence to ‘mature’ to fill unrestricted licence.
Investigator Recruitment can direct you to reputable Registered Training Organisations (RTO) that deliver the nationally accredited investigation course. You may also be eligible to meet educational and training requirements via prior learning or work experience. Speak to Investigator Recruitment about your training requirements.
There is without doubt a demand for experienced investigators. However, this is a real market environment where the good investigators survive and those that fail to deliver are left by the wayside. One could say that your only as good as your last investigation.
